DNS stands for either Domain Name Server or Domain Name System. This system is what translates domain names into something a computer can understand. A domain name is like your street address, while the DNS is like the post office. It takes your request for a website, and just like the post office puts a bar code on your mail, the domain name servers translate your request into a series of numbers your computer can understand. This set of numbers tells your computer where to find the website on the internet, your computer requests the website and it comes up on your computer.
